Special Olympics Indiana is hosting a special screening of “The Best We’ve Got: The Carl Erskine Story” at Eagles Theatre on Monday, Sept. 26 at 7:00 PM. The film, produced by renowned filmmaker Ted Green, takes a deep dive into Erskine’s upbringing as a child and his legendary career in Major League Baseball with Jackie Robinson, the first African American to break the color barrier in a sport that was segregated for more than 50 years. The film will take viewers on Erskine’s most proud adventure when he and his wife, Betty, have their son Jimmy, who was born with Down syndrome, and will share their story and impact they’ve made on Special Olympics Indiana and social change across the country.
The Wabash premiere of the documentary is being presented through a partnership with the Community Foundation of Wabash County, the Honeywell Arts & Entertainment, Manchester University, and Special Olympics Wabash County with an expected sold-out crowd. This collaborative effort supports action items from the Imagine One 85 comprehensive plan such as creating kindness initiative and continuing to support the County’s commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community for all.
Tickets for the film can be purchased at honeywellarts.org/carl-erskine. To view a trailer of the movie or to learn more about Carl Erskine, visit carlerskinefilm.com.
