We’re thankful for our supporters
Annual donations support the Downtown Wabash, Inc. nonprofit mission
Downtown Wabash is not just a destination in Indiana, it’s also a nonprofit organization leading the way for economic revitalization. In 1981, the Wabash community created our nonprofit organization from the “Main Street Movement,” which was born at the national level as an economic development tool. Originally known as Wabash Marketplace, the organization embarked on a full rebrand in 2022. The work remains the same: bring livelihood to Downtown Wabash.
Our vision is a downtown that is vibrant, every day and night. 24/7, 365 days a year. People overflowing onto the sidewalks. Marquee lights shining bright every night. Plentiful dining options for every craving. Shopping to your heart’s content. The vision is bold and bright!
Our mission is to be a catalyst for community and economic revitalization, as a nonprofit organization utilizing the Main Street Approach™ in Downtown Wabash. As Wabash County collectively takes on the goal of growing its population, downtown districts are identified as key drivers for quality of life. If the downtown area is thriving, the health of the overall community is strong.
“When a town has a healthy small-business district, property values rise and housing demand increases. Downtown districts become a point of pride and a place to show off to friends and family when they visit. It becomes a neighborhood. People may have taken it for granted before, but we see now that it could be gone and that does a lot to your personal quality of life.”
– Matt Wagner, Chief Program Officer at Main Street America
The public knows us best by our free events. More than 20,000 people attend downtown events every year. First Fridays are a smashing success with thousands in attendance every month. First Fridays increase retail sales by more than 350% compared to an average Friday. Wabash Farmers Market hosted over 45 vendors throughout the 2022 season and generated more than $150,000 in sales. Contributions ensure our free events continue to offer quality gathering opportunities for our community.
While we host more than 50 events per year, our organization represents much more. We’re here for small business support: 14 new businesses opened their doors in 2021 resulting in 12 full-time and 13 part-time jobs. We host monthly networking meetings, provide business consulting, and even offer financial support with grants, loans and scholarships! We help advertise property vacancies and housing opportunities. Plus, we keep our pulse on historic preservation topics relevant to Downtown Wabash and we partner with the City of Wabash to administer the Wabash Cultural District with the Indiana Arts Commission.
“As a new business in town, I needed support. Downtown Wabash, Inc. was there to provide guidance, introduce me to neighbors and be my champion. Their team is incredible and make my life as a small business owner so much easier.”
– Drew Siddall, Owner of Downtown Nutrition
